Versailles and the Grand Trianon

At the back of the Grand Trianon we stumbled upon this charming garden in April and took quantities of snaps in the sunlight.

A lovely spring day in Versailles. Tulips were everywhere and we had wandered back from Marie Antoinette’s hamlet to emerge at the back of the Grand Trianon to see this!!!

The fact that the tulips were not only in full bloom but had been chosen to match the pink marble of the architecture made this space truly magical. That it was a space not usually visited made the effort to create this garden all the more impressive and we were transfixed by the combination of the flowers and the building. I have been back to the same place 2 times more in the hope to rediscover the enchantment only to find it empty on both occasions.

If you go to Versailles do make sure you visit the further reaches, you never know what charming little extras you may find. Who knows, you may even discover a diamond or two dropped by Marie Antoinette in her gambols about the little farm she had created so she could dress as a milkmaid in her spare time.
