There was a Francophile from Nantucket

Sacre Coeur with the clouds looming in the distance
Sacre Coeur with the clouds looming in the distance

Day 2 of Poetry 201 and the form is Limerick. We already know far more than we should about that vile creature from Nantucket so I have produced 4 other exemplars of this deathless form for the readers’ delectation.

Apologies in advance for the doggerel.

I came up with this “ode to Paris” after a large tumbler of Armagnac unleashed this scintillating homage!

Oh Paris!

Oh Paris! Oh Paris! Oh Paris!

Oh Paris! Oh Paris! Oh Paris!

Oh Paris! Oh Paris!

Oh Paris! Oh Paris!

Oh Paris! Oh Paris! Oh Paris!

Attempt 2

The Birth of Ego

Still riding high on success of Haikus past, the budding poet pens his first limerick!

A preposterous poet from Perth

Grew to such a gargantuan girth

With creative juice loaded

All at once he exploded

And boy howdy! The birth of Venus was nothing compared to what this dude put out there!

Attempt 3

Retail Therapy

Shopping is the cure for all ills according to Western “culture”.

It really is not very funny

How the worlds going straight down the dunny

All these killings and wars!

Drugs! Violence! Whores!

Oh well, think I’ll go spend some money.

NOTE: for the non-Australians out there “dunny” is a vulgarism for an outdoor water closet.

Attempt 4

Wandering

I wonder why wandering’s appealing

And gives one a wonderful feeling

I wonder why one

Finds wandering fun

And wonder what wondering’s revealing?

My Haiku from Day 1 is here if you would like a read!

    1. Thank you very much! I am so delighted that you think so! It is not a genre that I usually enjoy but it is a great mind exercise trying io inject some little twist into it. Thanks for being so encouraging! 🙂
