The Louvre thoughtfully opens until nine once a week; a fact which seems to be relatively unknown by the hordes of tourists who pour in unrelenting floods through the main chambers during the daytime and crash upon the rocks surrounding the Mona Lisa.
Not only can one wander much more freely, but, if you can tear yourself away from the exquisite artworks you may also find a number of wonderful views through the windows as the light starts to fade and the crépuscule works its magic.
I snapped this photo from the upper windows of the Richelieu wing with the pyramid lit up from within. I know that I felt a warm inner glow just looking at it.
