Muraille Médiévale

A rare remnant of the Moyen Âge, these gothic column supports still have their original colours.

In response to the Weekly Photo Challenge: Wall

In Vincennes the ancient walls still retain some of the original colours. I always thought of medieval interiors as grey and austere until I saw these last vestiges of pigments which would have originally been of incredible vibrancy and variety. Add to this the wonderfully rich tapestries then you get another view altogether.

Over time these colours sunk into the limestone and this photograph which I snapped looked as though water had washed the pigments up the wall giving an ethereal effect.
