Australian native plants can be quite beautiful. Often they can be quite bizarre.
Banksias are one such plant. When in full bloom these flowers look like a technicolor bottle brush and their olive colored serrated leaves give a wonderful structural quality to any floral arrangement.
When dried however the seed pods take on a grotesque quality more closely resembling the pottery creations of the Martin Brothers or some form of deformed hedgehog.
I snapped this photo just nearby which gives you a good idea of what a dried Banksia nut looks like and fitted well into the theme “Dry” as part of Jennifer Nichole Wells photo blog this week
