It’s Flash Fiction time again! I do hope you enjoy another Lowenbrau Family tale of 166 words…

Let Down Your Hair

Grandmamma and Grandpapa Lowenbrau, Great Aunt Eunice, Mother, Little Wendy, and the “Danger twins” had climbed to the top of the Tour Solidor when the door slammed shut.

“Tut tut tut!” said Great Aunt Eunice

“I say my good man” shouted Grandmamma to an ant-like attendant who was locking up for the night at the base of the tower, “we are still up here!”

“Bof!” said the Frenchman, leaving with a Gallic shrug.

“Desperate times call for Desperate measures!” sighed Grandmamma, withdrawing the deadly hatpin which always attached her sun hat to her immense bun.

“Stand back!”

Over the turrets cascaded Grandmamma’s silver tresses like a river of quicksilver in the moonlight to the tower’s base(such good conditioner!)

One of the more intrepid Danger twins slid rather quickly down (so silky soft!) and begged the retreating guard for the key.

“My dear Rapunzel!”

Grandpappa murmured his wife’s Christian name admiringly.

“Husband! I told you I prefer Doris!” scolded Grandmamma, deftly reconstructing her bun.

“Well that is just typical” sighed Mother

About the Prompt

Many thanks to Sonya with the blog, Only 100 Words for the atmospheric prompt (above) which made me remember the fantastic Tour Solidor built on a small projection of the bay in front of the idyllic town of Saint-Servan, Brittany for Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers this week.

This fantastic 14th Century Tower has stood the test of time and you can explore its interior which has retained most of its original appearance. It was used in Napoleonic times to house British prisoners captured during attacks on St Malo. The view from the top is truly spectacular. A lovely 20 or so minute walk from St Malo is worth every step, particularly as it seems very few people visit it.
