Thanks to Louise from The Story Teller’s Abode for supplying the photo prompt for this weeks Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers prompt.
I hope you enjoy the 175 word long Lowenbrau Story…
Illegal Aliens
When Grandmamma and Grandpapa Lowenbrau, Great Aunt Eunice, Little Wendy, and the Danger Twins awoke, Mother thought they must be somewhere between Trieste and Venice, which was surprising as the blinds of the ancient train carriage were down.
The rhythmic sound of mechanical wheels must have sent them all to sleep.
“When did we board this train?”
“Do you know I really haven’t the faintest idea!” said Mother, perplexed.
They tried the door which was locked.
“Weren’t we driving to Ljubljana?” asked Grandpappa.
“I remember seeing a bright light!” said little Wendy.
Something beyond the door said something like “Tyiquettes!”
“Look outside Eunice!” commanded Grandmamma.
Eunice touched the blind which shot up and revealed through the window stars and galaxies flying past at immense speed while at that moment a gelatinous creature burst in through the sham-carriage door wielding a probing implement.
“Tut tut tut!” said Great Aunt Eunice.
Suddenly there as a great flash and they found themselves back in their hire car on the way to Ljubljana.
“Well that is just typical” sighed mother.

Wasn’t prepared for the twist. Nicely done!

A bizarre but unexpectedly excellent genre shift for the Lowenbraus! I challenge you to work in a meeting of them and some sort of tuxedo-wearing super spy.
On an unrelated note, the steam engine class that you’ve pictured, above, always makes me think of a portly restaurant customer with a napkin shoved into their shirt collar.

That’s a bizarre alien abduction! I’ve always loved the idea of ‘steam trains’ in space. I sketched out some children’s stories on the theme a few years ago and was quite put out when Doctor Who got there first! Good story. 🙂

Glad you enjoyed the story. I haven’t seen Doctor Who since I first saw the Daleks in the 1970’s as a child and was scared witless. Thanks for reading! 🙂

I love where you went with this, TJ. I’m glad you veered from the boring and tired subject of “illegal aliens”. Loved the twist! Brilliant. 😀
