Writing 101 I write because…

I have signed up for the WordPress Writing 101 course. I did a poetry course a while ago and really enjoyed it so now I am hoping that this gives me the motivation to try some new things with my writing.

The question for the first prompt is “Why do I write?”

My fear is that, after reading my posts, many people ask “Why do you write?”

I write for many reasons, as a mental exercise, as a cheap excuse to relive old beloved memories, to revel in my love for France or because I can’t help but get carried away over words.

I love the strange, beguiling capacity for black shapes on a page to conjure up the most vivid mental images. The process by which our brain see these symbols and takes an effortless sideways step into the world of imagination, the mechanics of reading in perfect consort with own own vivid fantasy world. It is incomprehensible and wonderful.

So if in my writing I am making a reader create their own imagery or can catch their imagination then I have truly achieved why I write.

I suppose that this is a long winded way of saying I write, I hope, to give pleasure to others.

So here we go on a 4 week journey and I hope a few of you will stick with me as I stumble through the lexicon.
