Coney Island, Sydney!

I took this photograph in Luna Park Sydney at night. Constructed in the 1920’s this building houses one of the worlds most complete set of pre-WWII wooden fair attractions which are still operational. In an era well before occupational health and safety, and risk management, it was perfectly normal to be flung off spinning wooden cones, hurtle down vertiginous wooden slides and be generally exposed to potential broken bones or limb loss as part of the joy of “Funny Land”.

Anyway, its Art Deco facade did look very appealing at night, despite the ominous looking clowns you can just see reaching out at you through the darkness.

  1. We’re still at my boundary of a nightmare, only a little more elegant. 😉 Your line “In an era well before occupational health and safety, and risk management….” made me think of our Flexy Racers because what possibly could go wrong with putting a kid on a sled with wheels and his face only inches from the cement so he can speed down the steepest road in the neighborhood.

    1. And yet you never heard of kids expiring on a regular basis despite the dangers. Now everything is very tame. I promise no more clowns for the next post. ☺
