Wildflower Wednesday

Wildflower Wednesday
These tiny buds grow in the grasses that line the shore of Rottnest, Western Australia

Rottnest is located about 11 kilometres off the coast of Western Australia. The Dutch originally gave it that name when they landed their briefly in the mid 1600s. Seeing the native marsupials which they mistook for huge rats they called the place “Rats’ Nest” and the name stuck ever more.

It is really a beautiful place and the “rats” are actually quite adorable.

This is a shot of the simple flowers that can be found on the island which you can ride completely around on a bicycle in 5 hours or so.

Flower of the Day – November 18, 2015 – Camelia
