Leave No Stone Unturned

Beach butterfly

Leave, my dear, no stone unturned

When searching for your happiness

You must not be so quick to spurn

The chance for found joys to express

When searching for your happiness

Take heed and share what you unearth

The chance for found joys to express

Is doubled when well wrapped with mirth

Take heed to share what you unearth

For any joy, however small

Is doubled when well wrapped with mirth

Love, make a spring of bitter fall

For any joy, however small

You must not be so quick to spurn

Love, make a spring of bitter fall…

Leave, my dear, no stone unturned.

  1. I like the sentiment of joy being doubled when wrapped with mirth- lovely. I must confess though, I looked up the word ‘mirth’ because the sound of it always made me assume it had a negative connotation- maybe I am also mistaking it for another word (thought I can’t think right now what). Not a critique of your poem- just the word. Am I alone in thinking this? I will now try to think of the word in a more positive light 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for the feedback. I know that I have seen the term “misplaced mirth” when someone has a laugh at the wrong moment but I did not learn it as a negative. Isn’t it funny how you get some ideas of a word like that. I always thought “ennui” meant a longing for things that had past but it really means boredom. Go figure. Hope you are enjoying your weekend! TJ

      1. No, I just meant I didn’t actually know the actual meaning of the word but from the sound of it thought it was a negative expression. Yes- I thought the same of ennui too! what a fancy way to say boredom. Clearly whoever created the word was the embodiment of it at the time! Weekend has been great, hope you’re enjoying yours too 🙂
