Cupboard Love

Oh for the time when something so prosaic as a cupboard had a door such as this!

There in the soft light across the tablecloth of creamy white she sat, pensive while the waiter discreetly placed the dessert. How long had we been here? An hour? A lifetime? The candlelight shimmed on her lashes of jet as she gazed down demurely, her lapis eyes seemingly fixed on the single vermilion carnation placed so poignantly between us.

The lashes fluttered unrequited butterfly kisses as she looked up and pierced my soul with her eyes. Intently, beseechingly, adoringly she gazed and I knew in my heart that she was about to ask something she had never asked before…

“Can I have your dessert?”
