Grandmamma and Grandpapa Lowenbrau, Mother, Little Wendy, Great Aunt Eunice and the “Danger twins” failed to notice the tide rushing in about the Fort National, distracted by Little Wendy’s kewpie doll being thrown from the ramparts by the naughtier of the Danger Twins.

“Tut tut tut!” said Great Aunt Eunice. Their coach was leaving for Paris in exactly an hour!

Grandmamma sprang into action.

Reaching into her capacious handbag she drew out Grandpappa’s inflatable rubber ring (piles, poor man).

“Eunice! Your spelunking rope!” Great Aunt Eunice, always wore a coil around her waist for that “hourglass shape” men liked so.

She deftly lashed the rope to the ring and inserted little Wendy into the hole.

“Swim Wendy dear! Swim!” She cried, tossing her out into the roiling sea.

Little Wendy mapped an arc through the air before hitting the water’s surface and then promptly sank.

They managed to drag poor bedraggled Wendy back to the fort just in time to see the Paris coach vanish in the distance.

“Well this is just typical.” Sighed mother

St Malo Fort at low tide
The same view at low tide. How could one not feel bliss when greeted by this view over the ramparts! The vivid lichen which covers the tops of the walls in St Malo only serves to compliment blues of the sea and the texture of the rocks exposed at low tide.

    1. Thanks so much Curtis. I am enjoying writing them I must say. “The Lowenbrau Tales” may one day hit the remainders bookstands to tumultuous cricket chirruping! 🙂

          1. Actually, what with Print on Demand, Createspace, Kindle etc, I think the days of remaindering are more or less gone, which at least is less wasteful. Now it’s all a matter of how to promote (the hardest part!) Many thanks for your support, TJ. All the best.

    1. Thank so much! I know you will appreciate the tides and the changes that they make there having experienced it first hand. The scenery changes all the time and each aspect is beautiful. It seemed like a great place to set some little short stories. Hope you have a marvelous weekend!

  2. A fun story, TJ. The Lowenbraus sound like a very interesting family! I particularly like Eunice’s spelunking rope. Surely, every woman should have one of those! lol It was a great prompt and I wondered whether there would be some kind of causeway at low tide. 🙂
